Biography
Dr Kiruba Munusamy is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the School of Law and Social Sciences, Middlesex University London, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council for the project ‘Transforming Institutional Justice for Caste-Based Discrimination and Violence’. She holds a doctoral degree in Law from Middlesex University London for her thesis entitled “‘In the Interests of Justice’: Cases of Caste Violence in the Supreme Court of India”, where she critically examined the judicial responses of the Supreme Court of India in the adjudication of caste-based violence.
She is also a human rights lawyer who practised in the Supreme Court of India from 2014 to 2020 and in the High Court of Madras from 2008 to 2014. She has been recognised with 'Change Maker 2025' and 'Social Impact-Achiever' Awards for her grassroots activism addressing caste-based discrimination and violence, intersection of caste and gender, right to live with dignity, freedom of speech and expression, abolition of death penalty and queer rights.
